Stephen Ames Triumphs Again: Boeing Classic Victory
Stephen Ames clinched his second consecutive Boeing Classic title with a birdie on the par-5 18th, securing a one-stroke victory. The Canadian golfer from Trinidad and Tobago now boasts three PGA Tour Champions titles this season. He finished the tournament at 11-under 205.
Stephen Ames successfully defended his Boeing Classic title, capping the event with a birdie on the par-5 18th for a 5-under 67 and a one-stroke victory over Ernie Els, Steven Alker, and Robert Karlsson.
The 60-year-old Ames, originally from Trinidad and Tobago but a naturalized Canadian, clinched his third PGA Tour Champions title of the season and the ninth of his career. He previously won four times on the PGA Tour.
"This stage right now, this is all icing on my cake, so I'm just enjoying this and I'm going to take it as long as it goes,'' Ames said after his win. He finished the tournament at 11-under 205 at The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge. "I'm enjoying the winning, let's put it that way," Ames added. "It is fun, no doubt about that. This year I've been very consistent, more than I was last year, which was actually one of my goals."
Els and Alker, who both played alongside Ames, each shot 68. Els also has three victories this season. Karlsson, the second-round leader, ended with a 75 in the final round.
Charlie Wi and Kirk Triplett tied for fifth at 8 under, while local favorite Fred Couples finished tied for 18th at 4 under after shooting a 71.
