The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested security assurance from the country's army chief for the Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled for October 3-20. The ICC is scrutinizing the situation due to the political instability following the ouster of former PM Sheikh Hasina.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reached out to the country's army chief to request security assurance for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled for October 3-20. The tournament is set to be held in Sylhet and Mirpur amid political turmoil following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to Cricbuzz, the BCB's letter to General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Bangladesh's army chief of staff, seeks confirmation on the security measures necessary for organizing the event. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is closely monitoring the situation after violent protests led to hundreds of deaths and forced the former PM to flee the country.
Alternate venues like India, UAE, and Sri Lanka are being considered if security guarantees cannot be met. Despite the turmoil, some BCB directors remain hopeful that the tournament can be hosted in Bangladesh. BCB's umpiring committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu reiterated the board's commitment to ensuring the tournament proceeds as planned, pending security assurances from the army chief.
