Noah Lyles is looking to become the first American in four decades to win the Olympic sprint double at the Games on Thursday. The women's 10km marathon swimming went ahead as planned after water-quality tests in the Seine river met thresholds.
The day features more than 30 medals up for grabs across diverse sports such as athletics, sailing, boxing, taekwondo, wrestling, and track cycling. Here's the latest on Thursday's Olympic events:
SAILING GOLD Austria's Lara Vadlau and Lukas Maehr clinched gold in the mixed dinghy event. Japan's Keiju Okada and Miho Yoshioka took silver, while Sweden's Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson secured bronze.
Italy's Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti won gold in the mixed multihull event, surpassing Argentina's Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco. SPRINT RELAY
The United States men's team made a significant step towards ending their 4x100 meters relay drought by qualifying fastest for the finals. However, Jamaica faltered with poor changeovers. The U.S. women's team also showed promise, qualifying fastest despite a scare.
SPRINT DOUBLE FOR LYLES? Lyles, the world's fastest man, seeks to add the 200 meters title to his 100m victory. If successful, he will be the first American to achieve this double since Carl Lewis in 1984. MARATHON SWIMMING
Sharon van Rouwendaal of the Netherlands won her second Olympic gold in the women's 10km marathon swimming, narrowly defeating her Australian friend Moesha Johnson. DOPING
China's anti-doping agency (CHINADA) requested the International Testing Agency to increase testing of U.S. track and field athletes after Erriyon Knighton tested positive for trenbolone. An arbitrator found the result likely due to contaminated meat, allowing Knighton to compete. PHOGAT RETIRES
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement after disqualification in the women's 50kg freestyle final. Phogat fell short of the required weight for her bout against American Sarah Hildebrandt. CARRINGTON IN HUNT FOR SEVENTH MEDAL
