China's badminton player Huang Ya Qiong won the mixed doubles gold at the Olympics alongside partner Zheng Siwei. China's badminton ace, Huang Ya Qiong, struck gold at the Olympics in mixed doubles alongside partner Zheng Siwei. The duo defeated South Korea's Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun with scores 21-8, 21-11, maintaining an unbeaten run throughout the tournament in Paris.
Adding to her golden day, Huang received a surprise wedding proposal from Li Yuchen, another member of China's badminton team. Through an interpreter, she expressed her astonishment and joy, highlighting her dual celebration of becoming an Olympic champion and getting engaged.
Huang and Zheng, who were silver medalists in Tokyo 2021, showcased remarkable consistency, going 6-0 in the tournament. Meanwhile, Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino secured the bronze medal, although they expressed disappointment for not clinching the gold. China's dominance in mixed doubles badminton continues with their back-to-back Olympic victories and historic successes since 1996.
