Lakshya Sen has taken a significant step towards securing his first Olympic medal, becoming the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semifinals after a nail-biting three-game victory over Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei at the Paris Games on Friday.

The 22-year-old Almora native, who previously won a bronze at the 2021 World Championships, showcased remarkable speed and precision, maintaining his composure to defeat the world number 11 Chen with scores of 19-21, 21-15, and 21-12 in a gripping quarterfinal contest.

As the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, Sen will now face the victor of the match between 2021 World Champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the semifinals. Notably, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal remain the only Indians to have advanced past the quarterfinals in Olympic singles events.
