Hyundai's Ott Tanak crashed out of Rally Finland on Friday, forcing his co-driver, Martin Jarveoja, to remain in the hospital overnight for observation. The Estonian pair managed to extract themselves from the car unassisted after skidding off the road during stage three of the event.
The car reportedly left the road at high speed in wet and slippery conditions, rolling and subsequently hitting a tree. Both crew members received medical attention on the scene before Jarveoja was transferred to the hospital. The crash has ruled them out for the remainder of the weekend.
Tanak, who started the event in second place in the championship standings, was just eight points behind Belgian teammate Thierry Neuville. The incident leaves Finland's Kalle Rovanpera leading the rally, with Elfyn Evans and Sebastien Ogier following closely.
