Tokyo Set for Thrilling 100m Finals at Next Year's World Athletics Championships

The World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, slated for September next year, will showcase the men's and women's 100 metre finals on the second day, the World Athletics Council (WAC) announced on Wednesday.

The prestigious biennial event will kick off with the men's and women's 35km race walk and wrap up with the men's 4x100m race, diverging from the traditional 4x400m race, with nine track finals scheduled for the last day, per the WAC.

The qualifying periods for various races were also detailed, including a marathon and 35km race walk window from Nov. 5, 2024, to May 4, 2025, and others extending to Aug. 24, 2025. The World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, will use entry standards and performance-based criteria for qualification.
