South Korean fencer Oh Sanguk, known as 'Monster' by fans, secured his second gold medal at the Paris Olympics in men's team saber on Wednesday. Oh's performance led South Korea to a 45-41 victory against Hungary and Aron Szilagyi, who has three individual Olympic golds.
Oh and Szilagyi faced off in the final bout, with Hungary trailing 40-33. Szilagyi needed a miraculous comeback, but his eight points to Oh's five were not enough to overturn the deficit. This marks South Korea's consecutive team gold in the event.
Upon clinching victory, Oh celebrated with teammates Park Sangwon, Gu Bongil, and Do Gyeongdong. Do, a substitute, played a critical role in the win by scoring five unanswered points. Despite the loss, Szilagyi's silver medal is his fifth Olympic medal and an improvement on the team bronze from Tokyo 2021. France took the bronze in men's team saber, defeating Iran 45-25.
