India's Archery Dreams Shattered by Netherlands in Olympics Quarterfinals
India's women's archery team faced a disappointing exit in the Olympics, losing to the Netherlands 0-6. Deepika Kumari's underperformance was a key factor, despite Bhajan Kaur's strong showing. This marks yet another quarterfinal exit for the team, which had earlier defeated the Netherlands in the Antalya World Cup.
India's most decorated archer Deepika Kumari let the women's team down as they lost in straight sets to the Netherlands in the Olympic quarterfinals on Sunday.
Nineteen-year-old Bhajan Kaur from Haryana scored an impressive 56 out of 60, but seasoned archers Deepika and Ankita Bhakat scored significantly lower, as India was defeated 0-6 (51-52, 49-54, 48-53).
Twice in the three sets, the Indian team failed to reach 50 points, summing up their poor performance. Deepika scored a cumulative 48, while Ankita managed only 46 out of a maximum 60 points. Bhajan's near-perfect score was not enough to save the team from another quarterfinal disappointment. India's archery team had finished fourth in the qualification round but failed to capitalize on their earlier success against the Netherlands at the Antalya World Cup.
