China has clinched the first gold medal of the Paris Olympics, though the victory didn't take place in Paris itself. The 10-meter air rifle mixed team event unfolded at the Olympic shooting range in Chateauroux, a three-hour drive from Paris.
Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao secured the top spot by defeating South Korea's Keum Jihyeon and Park Hajun, establishing an early four-point lead and maintaining it to win 16-12.
''My main feeling is just happiness. The match was quite hard, but being able to do a personal best performance helped a lot,'' said Sheng. Initially subdued in their celebrations, the duo eventually expressed joy, with Sheng giving a thumbs-up sign on the podium.
