All Blacks Captain Scott Barrett Undergoes Surgery Amid Rugby Championship Concerns

All Blacks captain Scott Barrett has undergone surgery after injuring his finger during last week's test against Fiji, New Zealand Rugby said on Saturday.

Lock Barrett, one of the two starters retained as New Zealand defeated Fiji 47-5, had the operation after returning home, the team announced on X.

No timeline was given for the 30-year-old's recovery, raising concerns he might miss the Rugby Championship's start next month. New Zealand begins their title defense at home against Argentina on Aug. 10 and Aug. 17, followed by two away matches in South Africa against the Springboks on Aug. 31 and Sept. 7.
