Ellie Black: A Journey of Resilience and Excellence in Gymnastics

Ellie Black, the Canadian artistic gymnast, entered her Olympic debut at London 2012 as a teenager with dreams. Now, she's a four-time Olympian, showcasing her unmatched resilience and dedication.

"Looking back from London, I don't think I would have imagined myself still being here at four Olympics, but I'm so grateful that I am," the 28-year-old said after training in Paris's Bercy Arena. "It's not easy. It's definitely something that you work at and it can be challenging, but it's so rewarding."

After finishing fifth in the women's all-around final at the 2016 Games and fourth in the beam final at Tokyo 2020, Black has adjusted her training to sustain her longevity in the sport, once dominated by teenagers.

"I don't necessarily train as many hours or I don't do necessarily as many reps," she explained. "It's about knowing your body and when to rest."

Black's career has often been interrupted by injuries, like an ankle sprain at Tokyo 2020 and subsequent surgery. Despite these setbacks, her determination remains strong. "Gymnastics takes a toll on your body. I'm being smart with my training, both in and out of the gym," she affirmed.
