Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) has announced an ambitious plan to establish a global ranking system for pickleball, mirroring the structure of professional tennis. Speaking at a launch event in Dubai, PWR outlined its vision, which includes a world tour and major tournaments, featuring significant prize money.
The inaugural PWR World Series will begin in March 2025 with a notable $1.5 million prize for its Middle East stop, PWR confirmed in a statement. Overall, PWR World Tour events will distribute $15 million in prize money, setting a new benchmark for financial incentives in the sport.
'This is the highest prize money ever offered in the sport,' stated Pranav Kohli, CEO and founder of PWR. 'We are delighted to be the team taking pickleball to the next level both on and off the court.' The sport, particularly popular in the U.S., is seeing increased international interest. Recently, the Professional Pickleball Association announced plans for ranking events outside the U.S., and Major League Pickleball, featuring ownership interests from notable figures like LeBron James, aims to have 40 million players by 2030.
