Moussa Diaby Joins Al-Ittihad: A Major Transfer in Saudi Pro League
French winger Moussa Diaby has signed a five-year contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, leaving Aston Villa. Diaby joins fellow French players Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kante at Al-Ittihad, which recently appointed Laurent Blanc as head coach. Saudi Arabian clubs are known for major signings, having spent $970 million in 2023.
French winger Moussa Diaby has signed a five-year contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, leaving Aston Villa, the English Premier League side announced late Wednesday.
Diaby, who joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of 52 million pounds ($67 million) a year ago, made 54 appearances in the 2023-24 season, scoring 10 goals and registering nine assists, helping the club qualify for the Champions League.
The transfer fee paid by Al-Ittihad for Diaby has not been disclosed. The ex-Paris St Germain player will join fellow French internationals Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kante at the Jeddah-based club, recently helmed by French coach Laurent Blanc.
