Oscar Piastri followed in the footsteps of Daniel Ricciardo as Australia's latest Formula One winner in Hungary on Sunday, but the McLaren driver has his own ideas about how to celebrate.

Ricciardo, whose most recent triumph was at Monza in 2021, is known for his podium swig from a sweaty shoe. Piastri, however, has no intentions of adopting this tradition. "The shoey is Danny Ric's thing," he told reporters. "I'll try and think of something new. No, I think that's gone and done."

Sunday's win marked another achievement for the 23-year-old after his first race, podium finish, and a sprint race victory in Qatar last year. "It's something I've dreamed of since I was a kid," Piastri said, highlighting the emotional significance of the win. The victory also underscores his wise decision to join McLaren instead of staying with Renault-owned Alpine, who currently lag behind in the championship.

Piastri credited his mentor, Mark Webber, former Red Bull race winner, for his career success. "His influence has been massive on so many levels," Piastri said. "His hindsight of his career is my foresight, keeping me out of traps he experienced."
