In a significant development for Indian football, Spaniard Manolo Marquez has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men's national team. Marquez, currently leading ISL side FC Goa, will replace the recently sacked Igor Stimac.
The decision was made by the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) executive committee during a meeting held on Saturday.
Marquez, 55, who is presently at the helm of FC Goa, will continue to manage the team through the 2024-25 season while concurrently taking on his new responsibilities. The exact tenure of his national team role has not been disclosed by the AIFF. Igor Stimac was relieved of his duties after the Indian team's failure to advance to the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
