Baek Woong Ki, India's esteemed Korean archery coach, announced on Saturday that he will not continue his role after his contract ends on August 30. The coach expressed anger at the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for denying him accreditation for the Paris Games, describing the administration as 'poor and hasty.'
Woong Ki was instrumental in preparing the Indian archery team in Marseille and criticized the decision to exclude him at such a crucial juncture. He stated that his return ticket to India has already been booked. ''I signed a contract specifically for the Olympics. Now, I will return to India to complete formalities before heading back to Korea,'' he added.
Questioning the logic behind his exclusion, Woong Ki pointed out that his extensive experience could have significantly boosted India's medal prospects. He noted that the Korean archers are formidable competitors, but his presence would have increased India's chances of winning due to the psychological pressure on Korean athletes. ''My exclusion is a major setback just days before the Olympics. I will pray for my team to win a medal.''
