Thomas Meunier Joins Lille: A New Chapter for the Veteran Defender

Belgium defender Thomas Meunier has joined Lille on a two-year contract, the Ligue 1 club announced on Friday. The 32-year-old player recently played for Turkey's Trabzonspor after his tenure at Borussia Dortmund. Meunier boasts an illustrious career, including winning Ligue 1 titles three times with Paris St Germain and being part of Belgium's squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup.

"Lille was the perfect choice from a sporting and family point of view. With its proximity to Belgium, it's like being at home," Meunier said in a statement. He emphasized that his extensive experience in European competitions will help guide younger team members and ensure their focus on the club's sporting success.

Lille is set to participate in the Champions League qualifiers after securing a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season. Their league campaign will kick off on Aug. 18 at Reims.
