Real Madrid extended Luka Modric's contract on Wednesday, securing the Croatian midfielder's presence for a 13th season with the club.

The agreement between Madrid and Modric will see the player's contract stretch until June 2025.

Despite not starting often this season, Modric is expected to play a larger role in Carlo Ancelotti's midfield following Toni Kroos' retirement.

Modric has clinched 26 titles with Madrid, a record he shares with defender Nacho Fernández, including six Champions Leagues and four Spanish leagues.

Modric joined Real Madrid in 2012 and has since become a club and global football icon, according to Madrid officials.

In 2018, he won the Ballon d'Or, FIFA Player of the Year Award, and UEFA Player of the Year Award, following his lead of Croatia to a World Cup runner-up finish.

With 178 appearances for Croatia, Modric holds the national record for international caps, and he has made 534 appearances for Madrid, scoring 39 goals.
