India's cricket captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that he will continue to play Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket, following his retirement from T20 Internationals. This announcement comes after India clinched a World Cup victory last month.
Sharma, 37, who has been on a break since the victory in the West Indies, is set to miss the forthcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, which includes three ODIs. Speaking at an event on Sunday night, Sharma reiterated his immediate future plans: "I don't look that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play at least for a while."
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, confirmed earlier this month that Sharma will continue as the captain for India in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle and the Champions Trophy next year in February-March. Sharma has had a distinguished T20 career, amassing 4231 runs from 159 matches, including five centuries and 32 half-centuries.
