Czech Republic Stuns World Champions Spain in Euro 2025 Qualifier

The Czech Republic came from behind to upset world champions Spain with a 2-1 victory in the Euro 2025 League A Group 2 qualifier on Friday, marking their first win of the campaign.

Spain initially took the lead in the 15th minute with a goal by Aitana Bonmati. However, the Czechs, who are ranked 30th globally, made an impressive comeback. Katerina Svitkova leveled the score before Eva Bartonova secured the win with a penalty. Despite dominating possession and making 20 attempts on goal, Spain couldn't capitalize and also had Irene Paredes sent off with a straight red card, leading to their first defeat in the group.

Spain remains at the top of the group with 12 points, as Denmark and Belgium prepare to compete later. In another surprise, Iceland defeated Germany 3-0 to climb to second place in Group 4, while Austria moved ahead of Poland with a 3-1 win.

In Group 1, Norway's expected 1-0 win in Finland was thwarted by an equalizer from Emma Koivisto in the eighth minute of stoppage time, resulting in a draw.
