Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his best wishes to boxer Lovlina Borgohain, Assam's lone entrant in the upcoming Paris Olympics, as per an official release on Friday.

Lovlina, who created history by winning a bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Games, is the first athlete from the Northeastern state to achieve this feat. The CM signed a 'good luck' gamosa for her, an initiative organized by the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA). The ceremonial signature was collected on Thursday.

The AABA, led by secretary Hemanta Kumar Kalita who is also the secretary general of the Boxing Federation of India, will present the 'good luck gamosa' to Lovlina after gathering messages from various players and notable figures. The Chief Minister also interacted with Lovlina, who is currently training in Germany, via a video call.

Lovlina is only the second boxer from Assam to compete in the Olympics, following Shiva Thapa who represented India in London 2012 and Rio 2016. With a medal in Paris, Lovlina has the chance to become the first Indian pugilist to win back-to-back Olympic medals, joining the ranks of wrestler Sushil Kumar and shuttler PV Sindhu.
