British police have initiated a manhunt following the discovery of two suitcases believed to contain human remains at the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, South West England. Law enforcement received a report of a suspicious man with a suitcase on the bridge just before midnight on Wednesday; however, he had fled the scene by the time they arrived, leaving the suitcase behind. A second suitcase was found nearby.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed on Thursday that the suitcases are believed to contain human remains. Acting Bristol Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen stated, "This is a very disturbing incident and I fully recognise the concern it will be causing our communities." The immediate priority is to locate the man who brought the suitcases to the bridge, identify the deceased, and inform the next of kin. Police are currently interviewing the driver of a taxi that transported the suspect to the bridge and have seized the vehicle for further investigation. The Clifton Suspension Bridge, a historical landmark designed by the eminent 19th-century engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864, has been closed to allow crime scene investigators to thoroughly examine the area.
