Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo was ecstatic after his daring strategy to stay on the offensive, despite being reduced to 10 men, resulted in a 1-0 victory over Uruguay. This win propels Colombia to the Copa America final against Argentina.
Even with right back Daniel Munoz being sent off during first-half stoppage time, Lorenzo decided to keep two forwards on the pitch. "We never want to be one man down, as it's almost impossible to maintain performance," Lorenzo explained.
Down a man for the entirety of the second half, Colombia could have doubled their lead, but Lorenzo was relieved to outmaneuver Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa. He also refused to criticize Munoz, recognizing his contributions to the team's success.
The victory marked Colombia's 28th match unbeaten, setting a national record. Lorenzo honored former coach Francisco 'Pacho' Maturana for laying the foundation for Colombian football.
