Ukraine's Summer Power Struggle: Energy Crisis Looms
Ukraine faces significant power shortages and consumer outages despite solar energy output, as Russian attacks continually damage crucial infrastructure. The DiXi Group predicts a potential 0.7 to 2.4 GW shortfall in peak summer demand, escalating to 6.2 GW with rising temperatures and further infrastructure damage.
Ukraine's energy system, persistently targeted by Russian forces, braves potential power shortages and consumer outages this summer, despite high solar power output and energy imports, cautions the DiXi Group think tank.
According to DiXi, moderate temperatures combined with further infrastructure stability won't alleviate the situation, predicting peak consumption shortfalls of 0.7 gigawatts, potentially rising to 2.4 GW should temperatures soar.
With critical annual maintenance at nuclear power facilities compounded by increasing temperatures, power cuts may become a daily inevitability. The impact of past attacks on Ukraine's power systems may result in demands outstripping supply by 6.2 GW during peak temperatures.
