Delhi Initiates Cloud Seeding Trials to Combat Air Pollution

Delhi's Environment Minister announced the commencement of cloud seeding trials aimed at inducing artificial rain to tackle air pollution. Conducted in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, the initiative faced delays due to poor weather conditions but is now set to proceed. Government preparations are underway, with the aircraft taking off for trials once visibility improves.

Delhi's inaugural cloud seeding trials are set to begin as the capital battles worsening air pollution. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa confirmed that preparations have concluded for the trials scheduled to commence today, pending visibility improvements in Kanpur for the arrival of the aircraft.

The trials come on the heels of a test run over Burari, where compounds like silver iodide were released to trigger artificial rain. However, insufficient moisture levels impeded success. The India Meteorological Department forecasts potentially favorable cloud formations, offering hope for inducement between October 28-30.

The initiative, a collaboration between the Delhi government and IIT Kanpur, faced multiple postponements due to unfavorable weather. Yet, with all necessary clearances, including those from the Ministry of Environment and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the trials are poised to launch, marking a significant stride in Delhi's environmental strategies.
