Two significant earthquakes struck northern Afghanistan on Saturday, registering magnitudes of 4.3 and 4.7, according to the National Centre for Seismology. Occurring at 4:51 am and 5:16 am India Standard Time, the epicenter lay about 280 km from Kabul, with the tremors originating more than 180 km underground.
The seismic activity in Afghanistan followed closely on the heels of similar geological unrest in Myanmar, which experienced two shallow earthquakes the previous day, leading to significant structural damage.
The impact of these earthquakes reached as far as Bangkok, Thailand, where tremors resulted in the collapse of a 30-storey building under construction and caused several high-rises to sway, inciting panic among the local population.
