In a distressing discovery, forest officials announced on Friday that the bodies of two leopards have been recovered in the Pilibhit and Shravasti districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In Pilibhit, villagers found a leopard's body in a canal within the Mala Range area of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. Dr. Daksh Gangwar, associated with the reserve, mentioned that a post-mortem would help determine the cause of death. Upon receiving reports, a forest department team was promptly dispatched to the scene, according to Bharat Kumar, the District Forest Officer of Social Forestry. Initial investigations suggest the leopard drifted into the canal with the water flow, but a detailed inquiry is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the body of a male leopard was discovered in Shravasti district near the India-Nepal border. The animal appeared to have died about a week ago, and its age was estimated to be around five years. Forest Range Officer Animesh Verma stated that the precise details regarding the cause, age, and time of death await the post-mortem findings. Both unfortunate incidents are under thorough investigation by the respective forest departments.
