The Madhya Pradesh High Court has given the green light to the state government for the disposal of hazardous chemical waste from the defunct Union Carbide factory in Bhopal, which will be managed at a plant in Pithampur.
This decision comes after a successful trial incineration confirmed the absence of any adverse effects. The waste will be safely disposed of over a 72-day period, starting shortly, according to directives issued by a division bench of Chief Justice S. K. Kait and Justice Vivek Jain.
Local opposition to the disposal plan has been met with assurances from the state government, confirming that all safety protocols will be followed. The Madhya Pradesh government has agreed to address any concerns raised by local organizations as the incineration process progresses.
