A scorching heatwave alert has been issued for parts of Odisha, following predictions by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) that the state's temperatures will rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next few days.

The IMD has flagged a 'Yellow' alert, urging communities in Sambalpur and Boudh districts to remain vigilant on Friday. Further alerts have been issued for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi districts on Saturday, expanding to include Bargarh and Sundargarh on Sunday.

The state's sweltering conditions saw temperatures soar to 41.4 degrees Celsius in Jharsuguda, marking it the hottest spot, with at least eight locations recording temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher on Thursday.
