The historically significant Amira Kadal Bridge in Srinagar is undergoing a comprehensive makeover in a bid to preserve its architectural heritage, while simultaneously elevating it as a tourism landmark. Falling under the Srinagar Smart City initiative, this project promises a blend of modern architecture and traditional aesthetics.
The ambitious Rs 7.17-crore project is already 90% complete, according to officials. This renovation intends to accentuate the bridge's cultural value by converting it into a pedestrian-only pathway. The revamped design includes a 52-metre vending zone, numerous kiosks, and gazebos, aiming to provide visitors with unique architectural and cultural experiences.
Locals have endorsed the transformation, saying it would enhance Srinagar's aesthetic appeal and promote tourism. By instituting a segment devoted to local vendors, the new bridge also pledges economic upliftment, offering fresh opportunities for artisans and local business owners.
