The Uttarakhand High Court has stepped in to address the critical issue of debris accumulation in the Pindar and Rispana rivers, as well as their connected streams. On Monday, the court mandated the removal of this debris, stressing the urgency of the matter as it relates directly to the survival of future generations.
The court, led by Chief Justice G Narendar and Justice Alok Mehra, expressed deep concerns during the hearing of multiple PILs regarding this issue. They warned that if the dumping continues, it could have dire consequences, including floods and landslides, which would eventually lead future generations to "curse us."
Authorities, including municipal and forest department officials, have been directed to submit a detailed timeline for the debris removal. The court has also called for increased public awareness and legal measures to prevent further dumping, reinforcing that it stands as a legal offense, with the matter set to be reviewed again on April 15.
