Wildfires have swept through several regions in western Japan, leaving a path of destruction in their wake. At least two people have been injured, and numerous residents have had to evacuate as the fires have damaged multiple homes.

The blazes, which are sweeping across the mountainous areas of Okayama, Imabari, and Aso, began on Sunday and quickly spread over hundreds of hectares. In Okayama's city, a fire originating on Mount Kaigara burned through 250 hectares of forest, damaging six homes in the process. In Imabari, located in Ehime prefecture, a firefighter sustained a minor injury while combating the fire.

The fires are attributed to dry weather and dried-up leaves serving as kindling on the forest floor. As of Monday afternoon, efforts to contain the flames in Okayama and Imabari have not succeeded, despite the deployment of firefighters and defense helicopters. Meanwhile, a smaller blaze in Aso village, detected on the southern island of Kyushu, was extinguished by Monday morning. Just weeks prior, the northern city of Ofunato experienced similar devastation from wildfires, highlighting an ongoing threat.
