An explosion and a subsequent transformer fire sent shockwaves through the Eastern Star Masonic Retirement Campus in Denver, resulting in ten people being hospitalized and displacing dozens more. The Denver Fire Department quickly responded to the emergency, which occurred on Wednesday, securing the area and bringing the blaze under control.
According to Capt. Luis Cedillo, a spokesperson for the department, the cause of the incident is believed to be a power line accidentally struck during construction work. While the conditions of those hospitalized remain unknown, up to 87 residents were forced to evacuate, leaving many temporarily without a home.
Resident Barbara Hinchey recounted the terrifying experience, describing how the explosion rocked her chair. Meanwhile, the American Red Cross of Colorado efficiently coordinated relief efforts, ensuring all displaced residents found temporary lodging by Wednesday evening.
