A four-and-half-year-old boy has tragically lost his life after allegedly becoming trapped in the door of a lift in a building in Asif Nagar, police reported on Thursday.
This marks the second incident of its kind in the city within the span of a month. The accident occurred on Wednesday night in a four-story building home to a private men's PG hostel. The boy's family hails from Nepal, with his father employed as a watchman at the building for the past four months.
Local residents and the boy's mother discovered him stuck in the elevator on Wednesday night. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the child, while playing, wandered towards the lift, entering it just as someone activated the lift. As the lift ascended, he became caught between the first floor and the lift gate, succumbing to his injuries despite prompt medical attention. Authorities are probing whether the incident was due to human negligence or a mechanical failure. A case has been filed following a complaint by the boy's father.
