The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has closed three waste collection points known as dhalaos in Jangpura Extension. This action follows directives from the National Green Tribunal which highlighted pollution and health risks due to these dumps.
According to a report filed on Monday, municipal and solid waste collection from one dhalao in the P/Q block had already been redirected to two dhalaos at the H and D blocks in Jangpura Extension. However, these have now also been shut down.
The waste collection process has been shifted to a newly established Portable Compactor Transfer Station in Pant Nagar. The concessionaire, Dakshin Dilli Swachh Initiatives Limited, was instructed to halt garbage collection at the old sites while commencing operations at the new location.
