Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has lauded efforts by the state's forest department and key stakeholders in preserving the state's rich forest cover. Speaking after the release of the India State of Forest Report (ISFR 2023), Khandu highlighted Arunachal Pradesh's second-place ranking in India's forest and tree cover standings.
The ISFR 2023 report indicated that Arunachal Pradesh boasts 67,083 square kilometers of forest and tree cover, just behind Madhya Pradesh and ahead of Maharashtra. These results underscore the significant strides made in maintaining ecological equilibrium essential for life on Earth, Khandu remarked.
The chief minister underlined forests' role in mitigating climate change by purifying air and maintaining ecosystems. He urged ongoing efforts to conserve forest resources, including wood and medicinal plants, to ensure a healthy environment and sustainable development for future generations.
