Efforts to transport and dispose of toxic waste from the notorious Union Carbide factory in Bhopal have reignited tensions. The waste, totaling 337 tonnes, was moved late Wednesday to Dhar district amidst protests and tight security.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister urged the public and political entities not to politicize the issue. He reassured that scientific methods are employed for safe waste incineration, and emphasized that this step follows extensive studies and Supreme Court directives.
Meanwhile, opposition figures, including Congress leaders, expressed concerns over potential health risks to local populations. Protests have already begun in Pithampur, underlining the persistent fears and complex legacy of the 1984 industrial disaster.
