In a sweeping operation, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) announced the demolition of 2,102 unauthorised structures across Navi Mumbai on Thursday. The move, which has freed up more than two lakh square meters of land, marks a significant step in the city's ongoing transformation into a global hub.
According to a CIDCO statement, the demolitions were the result of 547 drives during which various structures, including temporary facilities and RCC buildings, were razed. Prior to the demolitions, 2,160 notices were issued to owners under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.
The reclaimed land is crucial for Navi Mumbai, which is home to key infrastructure projects like the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the Atal Setu, and numerous housing schemes, many of which are nearing completion.
