Shimla Implements Public Toilet Fee for Men
The Shimla Municipal Corporation announced a decision to charge a Rs 5 fee for men using public toilets. This change follows a past policy where only women paid, while men's urinal use was free. The fee aims to support toilet maintenance and hygiene efforts across the city.

In a significant policy shift, the Shimla Municipal Corporation will impose a Rs 5 fee for men utilizing public toilets within the city. This decision was confirmed during the corporation's monthly House meeting, aiming to ensure better maintenance and cleanliness.
The move alters the previous arrangement where only women were charged, with urinals being free for men. Officials revealed that this policy change targets around 30 toilets with high daily footfalls. Furthermore, a monthly card system is envisaged for traders and shopkeepers, costing between Rs 100 to 150.
Mayor Surender Chauhan emphasized that the fees are strictly for maintenance, not a toilet tax, and efforts to incorporate public suggestions are underway as part of a structured implementation framework.
