Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd (MUNPL) is currently embroiled in a dispute before the National Green Tribunal over allegations concerning the illegal deforestation of approximately one lakh trees for its Obra 'D' Thermal Power Station.

The allegations suggest a significant threat to the environment in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, where the project is to be located. However, MUNPL has denied these claims, noting the project remains in its early stages and final plans are pending.

Supporting MUNPL's stance, a report from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change pointed out that such forestry matters primarily fall under the jurisdiction of state governments.
