Breakthrough Discovery: Protein Manipulation Could Halt Multi-Organ Failure
Researchers discovered that manipulating the TGFβ protein in the immune system could prevent multi-organ failure in severe liver injury cases. Senescence, or cellular aging, can damage multiple organs. This protein's inhibition may lead to preventing or delaying organ failure, providing new hope for severe liver disease treatment.

In a groundbreaking discovery, scientists have identified a key protein in the immune system that, when manipulated, has the potential to prevent multi-organ failure in patients suffering from severe liver injuries.
Research led by the University of Edinburgh found that damage to liver cells can precipitate cellular aging, known as senescence, which can then affect other organs, including the kidneys and lungs.
Blocking the TGFβ protein's activity stops the spread of this damage, potentially preventing the chain reaction that leads to organ failures, researchers said.
