In response to the escalating air pollution crisis, the Delhi government is implementing stringent measures outlined in Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan. Environment Minister Gopal Rai emphasized the importance of decisive action to combat the current 'severe' air quality level.
On Thursday morning, Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 428, marking it among the worst in the country. Factors such as stagnant atmospheric conditions and a dip in temperatures have significantly contributed to the deteriorating air quality, according to Rai.
The minister also highlighted that surrounding areas considerably impact Delhi's pollution levels. Despite the troubling situation, GRAP Stage 3 measures will not be initiated as the air quality is expected to improve soon.
