The heartbreaking search for two young brothers missing since deadly floods devastated eastern Valencia has ended in tragedy. The Civil Guard confirmed that the bodies of Ruben and Izan Matias Calatayud, aged 3 and 5, were found near Catarroja, 10 km downstream from their home in Torrent.
The boys disappeared on October 29 when rushing waters overtook the Valencia suburb. The children's father, who is not yet named, was at home with them when the floodwaters surged, blasting through the wall and dragging them outside. Heroically, he attempted to save his sons but was ultimately left clinging to a tree, managing to survive a four-hour ordeal.
Authorities have intensified search efforts, especially in ravines and the Albufera wetlands, as the region faces new storm warnings. Emergency services are relocating residents and suspending classes to mitigate further disaster risks. As the community mourns, 223 casualties are confirmed, highlighting the storm’s massive toll.
