Authorities reported that the elephants died after ingesting a toxin, potentially linked to the kodo millet found in their stomachs. Post-mortem examinations of most of the elephants have been completed, while another one remains underway. The deaths occurred in a short span, marking a rare and alarming instance of wildlife fatalities.
The state government has assembled a probe team led by Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) L. Krishnamoorthy. The team is tasked with unraveling the mystery, including examining samples for toxic substances.
