The Mayurbhanj district administration in Odisha has taken the drastic measure of withholding salaries for 843 employees due to unsatisfactory performance in implementing the central housing scheme, PM Awas Yojana. The decision, announced on Wednesday, highlights concerns over the district's inability to meet designated targets.
District Collector Hema Kanta Say addressed a stern letter to block development officers, expressing serious dissatisfaction with the ongoing execution of the scheme. Despite repeated instructions and monitoring, the completion of rural housing remains subpar with only 63 per cent target achievement a year into the initiative, Say stated.
He emphasized the priority of eliminating existing backlogs, as failure to do so could jeopardize future allocations of housing units. Salaries will remain withheld until each of the 843 officers meets the required 63% target benchmarks, ensuring accountability and prioritization under the scheme.
