Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced the construction of a new canal to tackle flooding in the Sellur area, one of the worst affected by recent heavy rains. The canal project is expected to cost Rs 11.9 crore and aims to prevent inundation in the future.
The decision was made after a comprehensive review of the relief and rescue operations that were undertaken following the showers on October 25 and 26. Officials presented detailed reports on the damage caused by the rains, the relief efforts carried out, and the measures required to mitigate future flooding risks.
The review meeting saw the participation of Minister for Commercial Taxes P Moorthy, Minister for Information Technology Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Mayor Indrani Pon Vasanth, alongside elected representatives and top officials, highlighting the coordinated efforts to address the issue.
