The typhoon has intensified, with gusts reaching nearly 300 kph, and is poised to hit Taitung county before crossing Taiwan and moving into the Taiwan Strait, en route to China. Taiwan's Central Weather Administration has classified it as a 'strong typhoon,' the highest alert level.
In anticipation, President Lai Ching-te has urged residents, especially in the eastern, southern, and northern regions, to remain vigilant. Some 36,000 troops have been readied for emergencies. Meanwhile, ferry services have been halted, and flights canceled as the nation prepares for the typhoon's challenge.
