The death toll in the Philippines from Tropical Storm Trami increased to 46 on Friday, with an additional 20 people reported missing. Officials cautioned that the storm could potentially return, threatening the nation with further heavy rains and winds next week.
Nearly 240,000 individuals have taken refuge in evacuation centers. Additionally, 7,510 passengers were left stranded at ports and 36 flights were canceled on Friday, the government reported. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has dispatched aid to the hardest-hit regions, pledging support to affected citizens.
The civil defense agency attributed the casualties to landslides, flooding, and other storm-related incidents, predominantly in the Bicol region. As Trami continues its course over the South China Sea, the country's weather agency remains vigilant for a possible loop back.
