A cyclone named Dana is poised to hit India's eastern states of Odisha and West Bengal. With its arrival, flights to and from the capitals of these states, including Kolkata, are suspended starting Thursday evening. Forecasters predict the storm to strike between midnight and Friday morning.
With wind speeds expected to reach 100-110 kmph and gusts up to 120 kph, authorities have taken precautionary measures. Schools are closed, fishermen are warned against going to sea, and over 50,000 inhabitants have been evacuated. In coastal areas, residents are being moved to shelters.
The cyclone has already disrupted operations at key locations, such as Dhamra port. Officials continue preparations for the cyclone. A red alert is issued in three crucial districts of West Bengal. In the past, such storms have caused severe devastation in India, emphasizing the need for vigilance.
